Big Troubles: Slouch

Not long after dropping the deliciously scuzzy appetizer of Drastic and Difficult (not to mention a legendary video) NJ’s Big Troubles have hit OESB with a monster of a full-length. While just about anyone can pick up a guitar and churn out fuzzy hooks from their parents’ garage (case in point) Worry is a shining example of lo-fi done right. These guys rake a tremendous amount of influences into their noisy squall, and it’s impossible to talk about them without name-dropping all the shoegaze/garage favorites (Dinosaur Jr, MBV, etc. etc.). Some of the less bombastic cuts (“Bite Yr Tongue”) even have shades of twee/Slumberland-style pop.
All in all, Worry should stand as one of 2010’s most thoroughly satisfying debuts. It’s sharp, fresh, energetic, and will burrow itself into every corner of your brain. It’s currently up for grabs on iTunes or OESB (for pre-order), but poor bastards like myself can stream it in full on bandcamp. Don’t wait on this one.
