Kevin Greenspon: Machine Shop

Kevin Greenspon’s had a busy couple of weeks. In addition to dropping his new (and surprisingly rockin’) split with Cloud Nothings, he’s issued three releases of his own. The gorgeous Common Objects LP is out on Family Time (stuffed with 30 photos taken by himself and Vehicle Blues) while Unveiling and Rose Window are out on Monorail Trespassing and Life’s Blood, respectively. Since we featured Common Objects’ “Threshold” back in August, I figured I’d share an excerpt from Rose Window. Greenspon has proven his chops in both ambient and pop, and “Machine Shop” combines those skills flawlessly. It’s droney and experimental, but not shapeless; beneath all the hiss and static, there’s a lovely, heart-wrenching melody.
