Kevin Greenspon — City Breeze

Yesterday I posted about Bridgetown Records’ Summer Batch and its complementary mixtape, which have been excellently tearing up my headphones/speakers these last few days. Well here I am plugging it again, this time lending some much-deserved attention to Kevin Greenspon’s Paradise A.D. CD. Packing 65 minutes of material, A.D. rounds up tracks from cassette releases both new and old, providing a prime entry point for those unacquainted with Greenspon’s ambient concoctions.
Among the excerpts featured on the mixtape is the pitch-black “City Breeze”, which, with the help of some well-placed field recordings, paints a chilling picture of rain-splashed gutters and flickering street lamps. It’s quite a shift from tracks like “Machine Shop” (also on A.D.), which use Greenspon’s shape-shifting soundscapes to more tender, nostalgic effect.
