Frank (Just Frank): Crisis

With Zola Jesus wooing everyone from Vogue to Wolf Parade, it’s clear that we’ve finally started to embrace- hell, celebrate goth. Captured Tracks and Sacred Bones have both cashed in on the trend, and their recent crop of darkwavers (Minks, Blessure Grave, Blank Dogs) has brought minimal beats and eyeshadow back in style.
The latest to hop on the bandwagon is Frank (Just Frank), who rep the French sound of ‘La Vague Froide’ (Cold Wave for you uncultured folk). While all the usual influences are here- The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Joy Division- these guys aren’t just re-hashing; on The Brutal Wave, their full-length debut, they strike a perfect blend of freshness and nostalgia. Crank up the frosty head-bobber “Crisis” and start channeling your inner Morrissey.
The Brutal Wave is out now via Captured Tracks/Wierd Records
